Don’t forget to read this summer

The Decatur County Library has kicked off its annual summer reading program and this summer’s theme is, “Fizz, Boom, Read.”
While summer is a great time for students and young children to recharge their batteries and take a deep breath from projects, book reports and quizzes, it is highly recommended that students keep their brain waves going over the summer and participate in stimulating activities.
If students do not pick up a book all summer, they will surely be playing catch up as they move to the next grade level instead of learning and adapting to their new grade status.
The best and easiest way to motivate students to read this summer is by getting them signed up for the library’s summer program. Students can get prizes for every 25 books they read. Create a day of the week for your family that is “library day,” and take the children frequently, inspiring them to pick up something new and explore.
Help your children bridge to the next grade by continuing to read.
