Grab a lawn chair and get ready to dance, as the Bainbridge Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and Downtown Development Authority are bringing back an old favorite — the Downtown Street Dance.
Friday, May 16 the streets on the perimeter of Willis Park will close at 6:30 p.m. to make way for performances by Lucretia’s School of Dance and then later at 7 p.m. for a performance by band SOWEGA Train Wreck.
The event will give residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy the park while listening to live music and enjoying shopping downtown.
“This whole event was really born out of the Master Plan process,” Downtown Development Authority Director Amanda Glover said.
The Master Plan was created for downtown Bainbridge with the help of the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute and will serve as a way to creatively bring more life into downtown.
“Lucretia’s School of Dance will perform and then we will have SOWEGA Train Wreck playing in the gazebo,” Glover said. “This is really a family event and it is a celebration about school coming to a close and summer beginning for the community.”
The concert and street dance is piece of the master plan puzzle that encourages more kid-friendly activities and family activities downtown. During the event, which will until 10 p.m., shops and restaurants on the square will be open for visitors.
“This will be a fun event for the family and we hope it brings more people to downtown,” Glover said, who suggests bringing a lawn chair for the event.
