Students who are unsure of where they are headed after Bainbridge High School will have the opportunity to meet with a representative from the Job Corps Tuesday at the Decatur County Library.
Marcus Rolle, a Job Corp representative, will speak Tuesday, March 4 at 11 a.m. to students and young adults ages 16-24 who are in need of financial assistance to obtain further training.
Those who attend will get to learn about the services and funding Job Corps can potentially provide.
“Young people should definitely consider coming if they don’t have the financial resources to go on to the next stage of their life,” Carole Albyn, librarian at the Decatur County Library said. “They don’t just have to go and take any job if they choose Job Corps; they can go ahead and get the additional training they need to pull in a real paycheck.”
All youth advocates and local organizations are encouraged to meet at the library at 10 a.m. to learn more about the programs the Corps provides. Then at 11 a.m., young adults and their parents can meet with Rolle as he gives an orientation into the program.
Rolle said they provide young people with GEDs, high school diplomas as well as certifications in multiple areas. While the Job Corps has 120 centers nationwide and can certify in more than 60 different areas, the program located in Albany can certify in 12 different areas.
“About 20 to 30 percent of our students actually attend college while they are in our program because it is a residential program and they stay in a dormitory style facility and everything they would find in a small city is here,” Rolle said.
He explained at their campus in Albany the facility is equipped with amenities like an Olympic-sized swimming pool, shops, a restaurant and a theater room.
Tuesday, Rolle will have gifts and prizes to pass out to those in attendance and he will speak in depth about scholarship opportunities for $20,000 to $30,0000.
