Senior Ben Day went 3-3 at the plate as the Bainbridge Bearcats took home a 5-1 victory over Dothan in seven innings at Bainbridge Tuesday.
He singled in the first, third, and sixth innings.
Tyler Braswell brought the heat against Dothan during his outing. Braswell gave up just one hit, allowed one earned run, walked four and struck out eight during his five innings of work.
Dothan’s lone run of the ballgame came in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by junior Christian Hughey.
The Bearcats went up for good in the fourth, scoring four runs on an RBI single by Tate Lambert.
Monday saw a similar win by the Bearcats. Two pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter for Bainbridge in a 15-0 victory in four innings over Early County.
Jordan Davis and Cayden McQuaig tallied nine strikeouts and walked one in completing the no-no.
Davis held Early County hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out eight.
“Our pitching was good. I’d like to see us be a little more efficient on balls-to-strike,” coach Brian McCorkle said. “I’d like to see use be a little more efficient on balls-to-strike, but other than that, it was good.”
Eleven runs in the opening three innings allowed the Bearcats to put away Early County quickly. An RBI single by Day, a groundout by Grant McDonald and an RBI double and a steal of home by Davis during the first inning fueled the team’s offense early.
Despite taking advantage of an early lead, McCorkle thought the team could’ve played with more energy, he said.
“We got four or five pop ups out in the first few innings,” he said. “Once we locked in a little better we started hitting the ball. We took advantage, got in the zone and we hit it.”
Dustin Strickland racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Bearcats. He singled in the third and fourth innings.
Greyson Harrell was the game’s losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out two.
They added seven more runs in the bottom of the third. Blake Merchant singled, bringing home Grant to start the inning.
The Bearcats tacked on another four runs in the fourth.
