The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats Soccer team opened the season with a couple of contests last week, splitting games with Americus-Sumter in Americus and Westover in Albany.
Friday night, the Westover Lady Patriots hosted the Bainbridge Lady Cats and built on a 1-0 halftime lead with a 3-0 victory.
In the 10th minute, a Lady Patriot forward intercepted a Bainbridge pass and dribbled past a defender and just past the Bainbridge goalkeeper and scored from three yards away, giving Westover a 1-0 lead.
The score stayed the same until the 60th minute in the second half, as a Westover midfielder was fouled just outside the penalty area on the right side.
She converted a lofting 19-yard crossing shot just under the crossbar to extend the Lady Patriots lead to 2-0.
The final score of the night came with less than a minute remaining as a Lady Patriot forward stole a Bainbridge pass for a breakaway and a 10-yard shot to the left side, giving the Lady Patriots a 3-0 win.
In the season opener Monday in Americus, the Lady Bearcats went against the Americus-Sumter Lady Panthers with the Lady Cats scoring two second half goals on their way to a 3-0 victory.
In the 37th minute, Bainbridge junior center midfielder Jennifer Becerra received a pass from senior midfielder Treesy Hurst on the left side.
Becerra touched the ball past a Lady Panther defender and into the penalty area where she took a 16-yard shot that sailed over the goal keeper’s head into the goal for a Lady Cats 1-0 lead.
In the 65th minute, Hurst got her second assist on the night as she scrambled with several defenders at midfield and sent a pass through to Lady Cat senior forward Jerilyn Jones who dribbled and finished with a eight-yard shot to the right side post for a goal.
The final score of the night came in the 68th minute as Hurst again delivered a timely pass, this time to Bainbridge sophomore midfielder Derrical Williams who battled and raced by three defenders, getting a seven-yard shot off from the top of the goal box to the right post.
