Mr. Robert Black, age 91, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at his daughter’s home in Blakely, Ga.
Services for Mr. Black will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home. Rev. Perry Lamey and Bro. Milton Pate will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens. Anthony Brown, Greg Brown, Vance Smith, Michael Rentz, III, Dylan Glass, and Blake Glass will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 2 p.m.
Robert Black was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Baker County, to Ennis Berta (Buster) Black and Levenia Norman Black. He moved to Decatur County in 1939 and made his home here. Robert served in the Army Air Force, 25th Fighter Squadron. He proudly fought in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. Black took pride in his work as a school bus driver and serving as department supervisor of the Decatur County School Transportation Department. He retired after 29 years of service. Robert worked for 17 years at Loyless Donut Shop. He tied for first place at the National Championship School Bus Rodeo held in Anchorage, Alaska. Robert was a lifetime member and former commander of V.F.W. Post 4904.
Mr. Black was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elma Faircloth Black; brothers, C.L. Black, Huey Black, Hilton Black and Earl Black; sisters, Minnie Lee Moody and  Bertha Tatum.
Robert Black is survived by his wife, Francine Gunn Black of Bainbridge; his children, Velinda Glass and husband, Gene of Blakely, Denise Clark and husband, Roy of Albany, Yvonne Brown and husband, Robert of Vada,  Bobby H. Black and wife, Susie of Donalsonville, and Karen Houston of Colquitt; step children, Shirley Fackler of Guysville, Ohio, Delores McCuller of Douglas, Ga., Elaine Hooks of Bainbridge, and Gloria Chapman of Bainbridge; sisters, Tammy Taylor of Donalsonville, Louise Davis of Bainbridge, Othelia Suggs of Donalsonville, and Audrey Faircloth of Bainbridge; brother, Harvin Black of Thomasville; 13 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
