Coach Chad Smith’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats wrestling team divided a pair of home matches Tuesday at the BHS gymnasium.
They defeated the Pelham High School Hornets and lost narrowly to the Cairo High School Syrupmakers.
Tyler Storey, who is 10-4 this season and has 35 overall wins, said the Pelham opponent who he defeated was strong.
“I was eventually able to get the advantage on him but it took a lot of effort,” Storey said describing his Pelham opponent.
Storey currently holds the record for wins as a freshman with 25.
Ashton Cato, who is 10-6 this season and has 36 overall wins, said his fellow opponent he defeated was strong, but also was able to pin him following a wristlock.
“I finally was able to pin him, but it took my best move,” Cato said. “It was really difficult to get the advantage on him.”
Coach Smith said his team performed much better against Pelham than they did the first time they met.
“We dropped a very close match to Cairo, but we also had some good efforts against their Wrestlers.”
Bearcat Grayson Heard, who is 10-6 this season and has 46 wins, could break the career record this year.
Hunter Odom is 9-3 this season and now has 27 overall wins.
Tramaine McCray, who is 10-4 this season, has 18 wins overall and Bryce Vaughn, who is 5-1 this season has 5 overall wins.
Ryan Adams is 6-0 for the season and that is also his overall win total.
Alex Wimberly is 9-4 for the season and that is his overall win total.
Ben Cox is 5-2 for the season and that is his overall win total as well.
