The Bainbridge eighth grade Bearcats and Lady Cats hosted the Thomasville Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets Monday. The Bearcats came away with a 43-32 win and the Lady Cats suffered a 33-15 loss.
The Lady Cats played first and were quickly swept away by the Lady Jackets, losing the ball and turning it over often.
“They made a lot of turnovers during the game and they missed a lot of easy shots,” said Lady Cats head coach Dorothy Pierce. “But overall, I was pleased with their hustle and the way in which they executed pressing, rebounding ad playing defense.”
Kiarra King led the Lady Cats with seven points.
“We must continue to work on eliminating turnovers and capitalize on scoring,” Pierce said.”
The Bearcats took the court next, and they took it fast. Bainbridge played aggressively against Thomasville, driving the ball down the court and scoring consistently on lay ups.
The Yellow Jackets, however, responded the same way, fighting aggresively toward the basket.
“We have been putting a lot of emphasis on playing with more discipline on the defensive and offensive ends,” said Bearcats head coach Heith Maxwell. Defensively, we played much better yesterday by keeping track of our men in transition. Offensively, we still have a long way to go. But we did pass the ball better.”
David Smart led the team in scoring with a career-high 17 points. Behind him was Kednall Lodman with 11 points.
Dameon Pierce, Markel Broadnax, Desmond Thomas and Clay Jefferies all scored two points against the Yellow Jackets.
The eighth grade Bearcats final game of the season is Wednesday against Pelham at 4:30 p.m.
