Enfinger came in first place in Bainbridge Leisure Services Department’s three-mile Ditch the Dead Zombie Run, out-distancing a 21-runner field.
Second place went to Dustin Reynolds of Seminole County and third place went to Julie Genovar of Bainbridge.
The run started near the Earle May Boat Basin nature trail and concluded at the beach area.
Each runner started the event with two ribbons attached to their pants. They had to attempt to complete the course without 30 volunteers dressed as zombies jumping out along the course and taking their flags away. If their flags were taken, they went into the “infected” group.
Runners were also able to find hidden flags along the course.
Enfinger said the course was basically smooth, but you had to constantly be alert for zombies along the Earle May Boat Basin nature portion of the course.
Second place finisher Reynolds said he lost one of his ribbons but was able to keep his other one free from the zombies chasing him throughout the race.
“I kept my flags almost all the way to the end of the run, but (zombie) Tyler Pollock took my flags just before I finished,” Genovar said.
Enfinger’s mother, Lisa Enfinger, is head coach of the Bainbridge High School Bearcats cross-country team.
“All of my runs and workouts with the Bearcats have helped me stay in shape,” Enfinger said.  “The zombie run was challenging. You really had to concentrate all the way to avoid the zombies.”
Assistant Athletic Program Director Joanie Robinson said she personally felt the run was a success, especially for an inaugural event.
“It was fun and we had a lot of feedback for next year,” Robinson said. “We want to try to keep things new for residents. But all-in-all it was great.”
Next year, Robinson hopes to double the amount of participants in this year’s race.
Next up for Leisure Services is the Rudolph Run on Saturday, Dec. 14.

All proceeds go to the Bainbridge Public Safety’s Shop With a Cop program, which allows BPS to partner with Family Connections of Decatur County to indentify children who need extra assistance during the holidays.
