Aron Franklin “Joe” Brown, 84, of Donalsonville, Ga., passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013, at his residence.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, at Spring Creek Baptist Church in Donalsonville, with the Rev. Jimmy Dean officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 10 a.m. at the church.

Interment will follow at Spring Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Gene Radney, Jimmy Henderson, Bryant Hatcher, Scott Gamble, Mike Ferguson, and Mike Brown serving as active pallbearers and Spring Creek Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class and Legionnaires of Post 157 serving as honorary pallbearers.

Born in Seminole County, Ga. on April 1, 1929, he was the son of the late John Franklin Brown and Lillie Alday Brown. After graduating from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1946 and served two years aboard the U.S.S. Charles S. Sperry. He was employed by Southern Railway for 37 years in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Atlanta. He was a member of American Legion Post 157. He was a faithful member of Spring Creek Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent, leader of senior adults, and enjoyed singing in the choir.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sue Peterman Brown of Donalsonville; three step-daughters, Sherry Gamble and her husband, Scott, and their children, Ashlyn and Zach, Amy Barnett and her son, Brody all of Dothan, Ala., and Dana Ferguson and her husband, Mike, and their children Anna and Mikayla, of Hartselle, Ala.. Also a step-granddaughter Debbie Clifford Brown and her husband, Mike, and their son, Michael and step-grandson, David Clifford all of Chattanooga, and special cousins, Dianne Trawick and Kathy Johnson both of Donalsonville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Minnie Lee Brown; several half-brothers and sisters; his first wife, Louise “Susie” Clifford and his step-son James Clifford.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Spring Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 2635 Georgia Highway 253, Donalsonville, GA 39845 or to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 117 South Donalson Street, Bainbridge, GA 39817.
