Lady Cats take 2 losses at Hoopfest

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats basketball team dropped two games Thursday and Friday, in the annual Seminole Wind Holiday Hoopfest, at Thomasville High School.

In the Hoopfest’s opening round Thursday, the Lady Cats lost, 77-31, to the Brunswick High School Lady Pirates.

Tameria Levens led the Lady Cats with 12 points. The Lady Pirates were led by Kiilah Alston with 16.

In Friday’s second round, the Lady Cats lost, 38-24, to the Thomas County Central High School Lady Yellow Jackets.

The Lady Yellow Jackets led 20-7 at halftime. During a low-scoring third quarter, the Lady Yellow Jackets scored eight and the Lady Cats scored four.

The Lady Cats came into the Hoopfest as the defending champions. They defeated Brunswick, 68-57, in the 2011 championship game, as RiChana Jackson, Alex Carter and Briana Wade combined for 54 points.

Jackson, who led the way with 22 points, has graduated. Wade, who graduated and is now playing for the Lander University Lady Bearcats, put in 13. Carter is still on the team.

The Lady Cats will return to regular action Friday, Jan. 4, when they play at Seminole County at 6 p.m. They will travel to Miller County on Saturday, Jan. 5, for a 6 p.m. game.
