Grace Pelham Martin, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her daughter’s home in Midland, Ga., on Sunday, July 15, 2012. A service for Mrs. Martin will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2012, beginning at 2 p.m. at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, Ga.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Mrs. Martin was born March 7, 1922, in Holmes County, Fla., the daughter of the late Blanche McIntosh Pelham and Wesley Pelham. She was a member at Northside Baptist Church, actively involved in the TEL Sunday School class and a member of the Glory Senior Group.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her beloved husband of 46 years, Vance Angus Martin; one sister, Bessie Jones; three brothers, Roy Pelham, Vaughn Pelham and Willard Pelham; and her son, Vance Rudy Martin.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Asbell and husband Donald Asbell of Midland; three sisters, Nell Young of Clarkesville, Ga.; Ann Ray of Albany, Ga.; and Jill Brown of Greenville, S.C. Mrs. Martin is also survived by five grandchildren and their spouses: Jeff and Kim Martin of Bainbridge, Jason and Belinda Asbell of Melbourne, Fla., Dr. Ames Asbell and husband Todd Alley of Austin, Texas, Derek and Shana Martin of Bainbridge, and Grace Elizabeth Martin Johnston and husband Dr. Patrick  Johnston of Zanesville, Ohio; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She will be greatly missed. Flowers will be accepted or contributions can be made to Northside Baptist Church Classroom Fund.
