Coach McCullough to host YMCA camp

BHS Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Rickey McCullough

Award-winning Bainbridge High School Bearcats head basketball coach Rickey McCullough will be hosting a three-day basketball camp July 10-12 at the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA.

Camp sessions will begin at 9 a.m. each day, and conclude at noon. They are designed to help young basketball players develop the hard-core fundamentals needed to excel in the sport.

The cost is $25 for YMCA members and $35 for non members. If a young player is already enrolled in the YMCA’s summer academy, the cost is $20. Participants will receive a camp jersey.

McCullough, who led the Bearcats to a 23-4 record, a Region 1-AAAA South Sub-Region championship and a berth in the second round of the state tournament during the 2011-2012 season, is a member of the Florida Basketball Coaches’ Hall of Fame.

Before coming to Bainbridge to take over the Bearcats’ program, he was head coach of the Chipley (Fla.) High School Tigers for 26 years. He led Chipley to a 599-229 record, which included 20 district championships and 15 regional championships.

With the Bearcats, he was Region 1-AAAA coach of the year in 2007-2008, 2009-2010 and 2010-2011.

At Chipley, McCullough was the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) District Coach of the Year and Panhandle Athletic Conference coach of the year 10 times.

In 2002, he was FACA coach of the year and Florida Dairy Farmers coach of the year.
