Three Bainbridge High School Bearcats and two Lady Cats All-Region 1-AAAA soccer players have been named All-Area by The Albany Herald.

Members of coach Jamie Ard’s Bearcats making the boys All-Area team were sophomore Luis Mejia, freshman Emilio Hernandez and senior Villeser Sarmiento.

Coach Chip Ariail’s Lady Cats were represented on the girls All-Area team by seniors Savannah Cook and Charlton Reynolds.

Mejia, the Bearcats’ center midfielder, distributed the ball well and had 13 goals and 16 assists.

Hernandez led the Bearcats in scoring with 22 goals. He also had seven assists, while leading the team to the state playoffs for the first time in school history.

Sarmiento was the Bearcats’ anchor on defense, Ard said.

Cook led the Lady Cats in scoring with 17 goals and had four assists, despite playing with an ankle injury for most of the season. Reynolds, a team captain, scored 12 goals and added eight assists.

“Both of our teams had some big wins this season and our five All-Area players were a big part of it,” Ard said.

“We passed the ball well and demonstrated great teamwork throughout the season,” Ariail said.
