James Lamar Darley, 83, of Bainbridge, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Archbold Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2012 at Delwood Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Hall and Rev. Doug Hall officiating. Interment will be held at Delwood Baptist Church Cemetery with his grandsons serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Ivey Funeral Home.

Mr. Darley was born Feb. 15, 1929 in Mitchell County, the son of William Ashley Darley and Lillian Baggs Darley. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. Mr. Darley was an aircraft mechanic while he served in the military and for Southern Airways after his discharge. He served as chairman on the board of directors for ASCS, served on the board of directors for Gold Kist, and was a former member of the Orion Masonic Lodge # 8 F. & A. M. Mr. Darley was an avid fisherman and hunter, and held the state record for Boone & Crockett non-typical White-Tail Buck from 1964 to 1992. Mr. Darley was a farmer for many years and was a member of Delwood Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

Mr. Darley was preceded in death by his grandson, Joey Maxwell; his brothers, Ernest Darley, Woodrow Darley, J. D. Darley, Crawford Phillips, and Louie Phillips; and his sisters, Stella Whitley and LaVerne Strawbridge.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Thompson Darley of Bainbridge; his son, Sonny Darley and his wife, Julie, of Bainbridge; his daughters, Gloria Anderson and her husband, Joe, of Panama City, Fla., Susan Maxwell and her husband, Chub, of Whigham, Ga., and Lillian Voyles and her husband, Coley, of Bainbridge; his grandchildren, Rebecca Darley, Amanda Darley, Stephanie Anne Darley, Hunter Darley, Holton Darley, Patrick Anderson, Carrie Anderson, William Anderson, Ashley Maxwell Faircloth and her husband, Jeremy, Jennifer Voyles, and Blake Voyles; and several nieces and nephews.

Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
