Teens’ Cinderella opens next weekend

The Summer Teen Workshop players of the Bainbridge Little Theatre are presenting Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” starring Stephanie Mills as the lucky young lass who wins the heart of the handsome Prince Charming, played by Austin Rowe.
The famous fairy tale has been re-fashioned into a play featuring such musical highlights as, “In My Own Little Corner,” “A Lovely Night,” “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?” and “Impossible.”
The first televised musical adaptation of the fairy tale was presented by CBS-TV in March 1957, with Julie Andrews as Cinderella. A re-make aired by CBS-TV in 1965 starred Lesley Anne Warren.
Everyone is familiar with the plot that involves Cinderella who is mistreated by her evil step-mother and two ugly stepsisters.
The Queen orders a ball for the Prince’s 21st birthday. All the eligible young maidens of the kingdom are eagerly planning to attend with the hope they will capture the attention and love of the prince. A royal marriage would make them into princesses.
Aided by her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella is also able to attend the ball, but must promise not to reveal her identity. She succeeds in charming the prince and the two instantly fall in love. She loses her slipper as she flees the ball at midnight. The smitten Prince announces he will marry the young lady who can fit the shoe. He sends a messenger to travel the kingdom in search of her.
The Bainbridge production cast also includes Christina Greene as Queen, Eli Poché as King, and Heather Phillips as the step-mother. The step-sisters are played by Stephanie Mayfield and Caylin Walsingham. Beth Robinson is the Fairy Godmother, Jessie Hurt is Chef, Andrea Zang is a mother and Austin Wade the father of their daughter, Sarah Michael Farrington. Wade also plays the role of Footman. Nyles Odom is the Herald, and Thomas Mitchell plays the Steward.
Performances are Friday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, June 16, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The show is under the direction of Ida Cooksey, with musical direction by Mike Inlow.
