Dennis Brinson has announced his intention to run for the Decatur County Board of Commissioners, District 3, seat. That seat is currently held by Dr. Charles T. Stafford, the chairman of the commission.

Brinson is the owner of Classic Designs Barber and Beauty Salon on North Scott Street, which was established in 2001. He brings more than 22 years of business experience, working with his father for 11 years and managing his own business for 11 years.

“I wanted to give back to this community, because it has given so much to me and my family,” Brinson said. “I want to give a voice to the people of District 3, by being accessible and willing to listen to the citizens’ needs.”

Brinson also serves as the assistant pastor of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, where the Rev. John H. Wooden is the senior pastor. He is a 1994 graduate of Bainbridge High School and is a 1998 graduate of Euro Hair Design Institute, formerly of Tallahassee, Fla.

Brinson said he believes one of the most important issues is to bring economic growth to Decatur County.

“I feel that we have four amenities to help us — we have highways, we have airways, we have railways and we have waterways,” he said. “If we can do a good job of marketing those advantages to businesses, we can help make our area attractive to new industry.

“I think another pressing issue facing the county is that we need to get the landfill under control. I think it could be run more efficiently and economically.”

Brinson said, if elected, he will serve as a representative of the people, and will not try to “micro-manage” the county’s business.

“I think the job of the commission is to serve the people diligently and honestly,” he said. “A commissioner’s job is not to micro-manage the staff, nor the administration.”

Brinson is married to the former Kesha King, also of Bainbridge, and they have two daughters, Elizabeth and Jamya Brinson. Kesha Brinson is currently teaching kindergarten at North Side Elementary School in Grady County, Ga.
