Grace McIntosh wins Clark Award

Grace McIntosh won the Herbert L. Clarke Band Award for outstanding musicianship, the highest honor a Bainbridge Middle School band member can receive, highlighting the middle-school band awards at Thursday night’s annual band concert and awards program at the Bainbridge High School Gymnasium.

The Clarke Award is named for a well-known American coronet player, feature soloist band master and composer.

Tyler Allen won the eighth-grade John M. Long Award on Thursday, as one of the most outstanding eighth-grade band members.

The award is named in honor of the dean of the school of fine arts, director of bands and distinguished director of music emeritus at Troy University.

It is designed to promote the entire band by encouraging musicians to greater achievement and enthusiasm, while providing an inspiring stimulus for potential instrumentalists.

Abigail McMillan and Christian Novak were named outstanding seventh-grade band members.

Outstanding seventh-grade woodwind awards went to Sarah Farrington and Regan Cutchin and outstanding seventh-grade brass awards went to Mallory West and Emilee Poppell.

Callie Rathel and Nathaniel Lambert won sevent-grade outstanding percussion awards.

Jonathan Thrower received the middle-school directors’ award and Narcisa Bailey, Leondra Brown and Taylor Bush received eighth-grade woodwind awards.

The eighth-grade brass award went to Brenden Greene and the eighth-grade percussion award went to Odinaka Obinwanne.

Thirteen middle school band students were recognized for attending the Southeastern United States Band Clinic at Troy University. They were Christian Novak, Mallory West, Abigail McMillan, Emilee Poppell, Ryan Whitaker, Grace McIntosh, Sarah Farrington, David Brock, Matthew Walker, Hannah Holt, Chiara Palotti, Arwen Anderson and Summer Boyd.
