Girls advance in tennis playoffs

Coach Amy Thomas’s Region 1AAAA champion Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats tennis teams will host their second round matches in the State AAAA tournament.

Both the boys and girls teams will face the McIntosh High School Chiefs and Lady Chiefs from Peachtree City, Ga., on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the BHS courts. Coach Thomas said both teams’ matches should take place at the same time, as there are 10 courts at the school.

The BHS boys tennis team reached the second round by defeating the Effingham County High School Rebels 4-1 on Tuesday.

The Lady Cats got there by defeating the Ware County High School Lady Gators 5-0 on Thursday.

In singles, Hilary Flournoy won 6-2, 6-0 at number one, Kristen Monson won 6-2, 6-2 at number two and Anne Reynolds won 6-0, 6-0 at number three.

In doubles, Emma Kate Smith and Kelly Brooks won 6-4, 6-1 at number one and Meredith Conder and Lynsey Waddell won 6-1, 6-0 at number two.
