The 2011-2012 Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats basketball teams were honored for outstanding seasons Thursday night at the school cafeteria.

Coach Ricky McCullough’s Bearcats finished 23-4, won the Region 1AAAA South Sub-Region championship and advanced to the second round of the State Class AAAA Tournament.

Coach Kelvin Cochran’s Lady Cats finished 15-9, won the Thomasville High School Holiday Hoopsfest championship and advanced to the second round of the State Class AAAA Tournament.

Special Bearcats awards went to senior forwards Rodney Glenn, Trea Kelly and Paul Chukes.

Glenn, who was unable to attend the banquet because of illness, was first team All-Region 1AAAA and All-State. He led the team in assists with 4.6 per game and led the team in steals with 3.1 per game.

He has signed a basketball scholarship with the Chattahoochee Valley Community College Pirates of Phenix City, Alabama.

Devin Thompson, also known as “The Golden Voice” of several Bearcat sports, was honored for his outstanding job of announcing boys and girls basketball games.

Senior forward Trea Kelly, who was second team All-Region1AAAA, led the team in blocked shots with 49. Chukes was first team All-Region 1AAAA. He led the team in scoring with 368 points, averaging 12.5 per game and also led in rebounds with 152, averaging 6.4 per game.

Chukes will also be attending Chattahoochee Valley Community College on a basketball scholarship.

Junior guard Dontavius Marshall led the team in free throw shooting with a 74 percent average. A second team All-Region 1AAAA selection, he also led the team in three point shooting, making 63 for a 39 percent average.

Forward Dillen Thomas was named the most improved Bearcats player.
Topping the Lady Cats honorees Thursday night was Briana Wade, a first team All-Region 1AAAA selection who has signed with the Lander University Lady Bearcats of Greenwood, South Carolina. She led the team in points with 11.5 a game, rebounds with 5.1 a game and assists with 4.3 a game.

Khadeeijah Cooper and Diamond Bouie were named most improved players and Richana Jackson, a second team All-Region 1AAAA selection who signed with the Albany Technical College Lady Titans, led the team in scoring, rebounding, steals and free throw percentage.

Takeia Crankfield, an honorable mention All-Region 1AAAA selection, who has signed with the Albany Technical College Lady Titans, was honored as best defensive player.

Alexandria Carter, an honorable mention All-Region 1AAAA selection, was honored as the Lady Cats leading three point shooter.
