St. John’s Episcopal Church held their annual spring card and style show Thursday morning. The event, first begun in 2008, continues to evolve and now includes men who participate in the card games and lunch. This year a couple of brave, male souls (John McRae and Clayton Penhallegon) even took part in the style show, modeling selections from the Belk’s men’s department.
The original planning group, consisting of churchwomen Barbara Snell, Nancy King, Arlene Cowden, Jean Attaway and Pauline Brock, came up with the idea to fund the local Humane Society. It has now become so successful that it funds various charitable projects in the community.
The tea sandwiches that were served the first couple of years have been replaced by St. John’s famous chicken salad luncheons.
Belk Department Store presents a show of spring fashions, featuring local models. This year the show was narrated by Belk associate Suzanne Phillips and emcees for the day were Eileen and Clive Parker.
