Sarah Gardner, partnership director with the Georgia Lions Lighthouse for the Blind in Chamblee, Ga., updated the Bainbridge Lions Club on Wednesday on the many things the club is doing to help the sight- and hearing-impaired.

“First of all, I want to thank you for all the support you have given the Lighthouse through the years,” Gardner said. “We did 325 eye surgeries last year.

“We have 23 eye clinics around the state that do eye screenings. The closest one to you is in Tifton.”

Gardner also pointed out that 100 percent of the money that Lions Clubs throughout the state receive, in their yearly white cane drives, go to the Lighthouse.

“At the Lighthouse, our mission is to provide vision and hearing services through education, detection, prevention and treatment,” Gardner said.

“Through collaborative partnerships we enable greater independence and increased quality of life for Georgians in financial need.”

Gardner also said the Lighthouse recycles used eyeglasses, and last year recycled more than 100,000 pairs.
