Trojans down Bearcats twice

The Lee County High School Trojans, the Region 1-AAAA baseball leaders, swept a pair of close games over the Bainbridge High School Bearcats on Friday night at Bearcat Field.

Lee County won the opener, 10-7, and took the nightcap, 4-2.

Bainbridge will enter today’s 4:30 p.m. game against the Maclay High School Marauders in Tallahassee, Fla., with a 7-8 overall record and a 2-5 Region 1-AAAA mark.

They will return to Region 1-AAAA play Friday when they host the Warner Robins High School Demons at 5 p.m. at Bearcat Field.

Lee County 10, Bainbridge 7

The Trojans took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the first game.

The Bearcats plated a run in the bottom of the second to cut it to 3-2. Designated hitter Cole Granato led off the inning with an infield hit to second. Gunnar Griffin followed with a single to right.

A wild pitch moved the runners up to second and third. Second baseman Brandon Bates singled, driving in pinch runner Ben Day.

The Trojans added six runs in the top of the third to go up 9-1.

The Bearcats added three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut it to 9-4. Pitcher Jake Goodson led off the inning with a line drive single to right. First baseman Jordan Cox followed with a single to center moving him up to second.

After left fielder Trevor Watts lined out to center, centerfielder Tate Lambert lined a single to center, driving in Goodson with the Bearcats’ second run.

Bates walked to load the bases. The second run came in on a fielder’s choice.

The third and fourth runs of the inning came home on a single to right by third baseman Jackson Jones and an error.

The Trojans increased their lead to 10-4 with a run in the top of the fifth.

The Bearcats came right back with a run in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on a fielder’s choice.

Bainbridge scored its sixth run in the bottom of the sixth. Second baseman Bates drew a walk on a 3-1 pitch to lead it off. Bates eventually moved up to second on a wild pitch and came in on an RBI single to left by Jones.

The Bearcats scored their final first-game run in the bottom of the seventh.

Goodson drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch and Watts beat out an infield hit to move him up to second. The runners moved up to second and third on a wild pitch and Goodson scored on a groundout to second.

Lee County 4, Bainbridge 2

The Trojans took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning of the second game. Lee County scored their fourth run in the top of the seventh.

The Bearcats rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Right fielder Michael Faircloth lined a leadoff single to left, and moved up to second when designated hitter Granato beat out an infield single down the third base line. They moved up to second and third on a ground out and came in on a single by Watts.
