Coach Scott Miller’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats baseball team dropped a 3-1 Region 1-AAAA baseball game to the Northside-Columbus High School Patriots on Friday, in Columbus, Ga.

The game, which started at 5 p.m., was halted by a nearly-two-hour rain delay in the second inning, and did not end until nearly 10 p.m.

Senior right hander Jordan Massey turned in what Miller called “an outstanding pitching performance.” He allowed the Patriots only two hits during the first two innings and held them hitless the rest of the way.

Northside scored all three of its runs in the second inning. Two walks and a single produced the runs.

The Bearcats (7-7, 2-4 in Region 1-AAAA) threatened in the top of the sixth.

A double by centerfielder Tate Lambert, a walk to second baseman Brandon Bates and a pair of stolen bases put runners on second and third with two outs.

Catcher Blake Voyles stepped to the plate and hit a hard liner to center that was caught to retire the side.

“Blake really hit the ball solidly,” Miller said. “It just happened to be right at the centerfielder.”

The Bearcats scored their run in the top of the sixth. Left fielder Trevor Watts walked, moved to second on a fielder’s choice, and scored on a double by Lambert.

“Jordan Massey kept the Northside lineup under control,” Miller said. “He was just as strong after the rain delay as he was before it.”
