Bainbridge Middle School’s Bearcats continued their winning ways this last weekend, picking up a 13-0 win over Whigham on Thursday, an 11-10 win over Seminole County on Saturday, and an 11-1 win over Maclay (Fla.) on Saturday.

 

BMS 13, Whigham 0

BMS sent all nine batters to the top of the plate in the first inning, on the way to a shutout victory over Whigham. Earlier in the year, BMS only beat Whigham by one, and coach Brian McCorkle was not sure what would happen Thursday.

“We were not sharp at practice Wednesday, and that carried over into our pre-game Thursday,” he said. “You start to think, ‘Well how are we going to mess it up next?’”

But it turned out that McCorkle would have no need to worry, as the Bearcats shut out their opponent and allowed just two hits. Matthew Green picked up the win for Bainbridge, working six innings and striking out nine.

In the first, BMS’s Drew Leverette started the inning with a base hit. Jimmy Nix followed with a walk and Carson Inlow singled to center, driving in Leverette. Noah Bryant then walked to load the bases, and Bo Phillips singled to drive in Nix.

Keith Lyle followed with a walk, forcing home Andre Jackson, who had come in to run for Bryant.

Bryant added an RBI single in the second inning and Ty Varnum had a two-run double in the fourth.

In the sixth inning, BMS added four more runs. Russell Wheeler walked, Tyler Beaty singled and Anthony Henry then singled to right to score both runners. Myles Thomas later singled and drove in Henry, and later scored on an error.

 

BMS 11, Seminole County 10

The Bearcats trailed 5-0 in the fifth inning before mounting a comeback. BMS took a 10-6 lead after five innings, but Seminole County battled back to tie the game in the top of the sixth.

The Bearcats scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Green singled and then stole second, and Waddell was hit by a pitch. With runners at first and second, Jackson singled to right, scoring Green for the walk-off victory.

Cayden McQuaig pickd up the win for the Bearcats, working one inning and earning a strikeout. Phillips and Varnum also pitched.

 

BMS 11, Maclay (Fla.) 1

BMS scored five runs in the first, three in the second and three in the fourth to cruise to the win.

Lyle led all hitters with three hits and three RBIs. Clarke Wiggins picked up the complete-game win on the mound, allowing only one unearned run while striking out three.
