Bearcats defeat Pirates, 10-1

A two-run double by catcher Blake Voyles in the bottom of the first inning Thursday put the Bainbridge High School Bearcats ahead, 2-1, and they went on to post a dominating 10-1 victory over the Sneads (Fla.) High School Pirates.

The win came in the second round of the 2012 Adidas R&S Sports Tri-State Invitational Toournament, hosted by the Bearcats. Bainbridge opened tournament play on Monday, shutting out the Dothan (Ala.) High School Tigers, 7-0.

The Bearcats scored two more runs in the bottom of the second to make it 4-1. Second baseman Beandon Bates drove in the first run, with an RBI double to left. He then came home on an RBI single to right by Voyles.

They also added two runs in the bottom of the third. Shortstop Matt Burke singled to center and left fielder Trevor Watts and pitcher Tate Lambert drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Burke and Watts later scored on errors.

The Bearcats added a run in the sixth when Burke walked, moved up to second on a Watts walk, and later scored on a fielder’s choice.

Bainbridge added three more runs in the seventh to seal the victory.

In the seventh, Trey Suber got the first run home with a sacrifice fly to center and Miguel Williams drove in the final two runs with a double.
