The Lake Seminole Lions Club’s 18th annual Shell Cracker Tournament is set for April 28 at Seminole State Park.

The tournament chairman, Jimmy Anderson, recently met with the Seminole State Park Manager, Clint Rouse, and set up plans for the event. The tournament will consist of a Children’s Fishing Rodeo and a regular adult tournament. The adult tournament will begin with registration at 6 a.m. and boats sent off at 7 a.m. The entry fee will be $20 per person.

First prize for the Adult Tournament is $500. Children under the age of 12 will be allowed to register for the fishing rodeo and fish from the banks of the State Park. There is no charge for the Children’s Rodeo and the grand prize will be donated by the Whittaker family, in memory of the late Mr. I. J. Whitaker.

There will be a duck race with the top prize of $300, and the second prize of $200. See any Lake Seminole Lions Club member for tickets. For a donation of $5, participants will receive a ticket for a duck or donate $20 and receive five tickets for five ducks. There will be ducks numbered from 1 to 1,000.

For each $1 donation, visitors may get a ticket for a 42-inch flat-screen TV to be given away the day of the Shell Cracker Tournament. These tickets are available now, just ask any Lake Seminole Lions Club Member for them.

The Seminole State Park has given the club the authority to have vendors. The club invites art and craft vendors to contact any club member for an application. Setup fee for each 12-by-12 vendor site is $25. For more information, contact Edward Crump at (229) 861-3258.

The club is planning on having live entertainment and is attempting to line up some acts. If anyone would like to entertain the crowd or knows anyone that would like to participate, please let the club know.

What does the Lions Club do? It gives back to the community. The club has paid for eye exams, eye glasses, eye surgeries and hearing aids for individuals that cannot afford them. The club has purchased items for the firefighters and equipment for the SCVFD and the mosquito spraying vehicle and to other numerous projects. The club also give food and sometimes monetary donations to families that are in need. The club is also one of the organizations to help families in the event of a disaster.
