Lady Cougars win Inland Classic

Coach Mike Harrell’s Bainbridge Christian Academy Lady Cougars basketball team captured the championship of the Inland Classic Tournament with a 48-18 championship game victory over the Robert F. Munroe School Lady Bobcats of Quincy, Fla., on Saturday, Nov. 19.

They were led by Rachel Harrell with 17 points. She had seven two-point field goals and one three-pointer. Emma Heard added eight points on three field goals and two free throws and Shellby Woodrum and Perra Harrell put in six points apiece. Each scored three field goals.

The Lady Cougars earned their berth in the championship game with a 42-41 first-round victory over the Ashford Academy Lady Falcons from Ashford, Ala.

‘We were supposed to play the Enterprise, Alabama Prep Academy Lady Patriots but they had to withdraw because their state association would not let them play on Friday,” Harrell said. “Ashford agreed to step into the tournament in their place.”

In the Ashford game, the Lady Cougars were led by Emma Heard with 16 points on eight field goals. She was followed by Jocelyn Jacobs with nine points on four field goals and a free throw, and Perra Harrell with six points on two field goals and two free throws

Rounding out the Lady Cougars’ scoring column against Ashford were Rachel Harrell with five points on two field goals and a free throw, Christy Colvin with two points on two free throws, Shellby Woodrum with two points on a field goal and Emilee Murr with two points on a field goal.

“We were lucky to win and very fortunate to find a high quality team like Ashford to compete in our tournament,” Harrell said.
