Don’t forget to change clocks

Published 6:55 pm Friday, November 4, 2011

This Sunday, at 2 a.m., Daylight Saving Time will end for another year. Remember to set your clocks back an hour before going to bed Saturday night, and also use this time to check on smoke alarm batteries. They should be inspected every year, and Daylight Saving Time’s switchover is a perfect time to attend to this task. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the risk of dying from fires in homes without smoke alarms is twice as high as in homes that have working smoke alarms.

Remember to vote Tuesday: The polls open locally at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. for Election Day this Tuesday. Although there are no national or state races on the ballot, there are some important local issues. Voters will decide whether to renew the ESPLOST for another year, and some voters in Bainbridge and Brinson will have city council races to decide. Citizens who wish to check their voter registration status and find out where they vote can visit www.sos.ga.gov/mvp or call the Decatur County Board of Elections at (229) 243-2087.
