A funeral for Mrs. Deane Palmer Guice, 76, of Pelham, Ga., was held Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doug Hall officiating, assisted by Dr. Monty Guice.

Interment will be in Meigs Sunset Cemetery with Kermit Palmer, Stacy Palmer, Neil Palmer Stempenski, Joel Cook, Johnny Radney, Raburn Butler and Brian Renner acting as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerome Chason, Junior Chason, Neadom Palmer, Treavor Pollock, Terry Powell, Denny Powell, Spencer Powell, David Powell, Walter Sealy, Mike Trammell, Gerald Brooks and Lee Glenn.

Mrs. Guice was born March 27, 1935, in Mitchell County, the oldest of five children born to the late Milton (Mitt) Palmer and Fay Powell Palmer. She died Oct. 8, 2011, at her residence in Pelham. She graduated from Pelham High School in 1953 and was married in 1953, traveling while having her first three children.

After returning to Pelham she worked for Judge Robert Culpepper, Collins Insurance Co. and Pelham Phosphate Co.

In 1971, she had twin boys and moved to Arlington, Ga. While living in Arlington she was a teachers aide in the library for the Calhoun County School system. In 1993, she moved back to Pelham and relocated to the house she had always owned. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, playing cards, playing the piano and dancing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Glenda Fay Palmer Craycraft, and a brother, Norris Edward Palmer.

Survivors include her five children, Wesley “Wes” Humphries and wife, Gina, of Ocala, Fla., Darlene Humphries of Pelham, Denise Humphries Owens of Destin, Fla., Monty Palmer Guice and wife, Stephanie, of Grand Prairie, Texas, Merril Dean Guice and wife, Holy, of Cartersville, Ga.; a precious and devoted niece, Caren Renner Craycraft of Cleveland, Mo.; two brothers, Lee Palmer and wife, Chestene, and Neil Palmer and wife, Rose; 15 grandchildren, Stacie Woods, Davie Woods, Amanda Burgess, Dylan Humphries, Maggie Guice, Gracie Guice, Grant Guice, Betsie Guice, Caleb Guice, Laura Grace Guice, Benjamin Guice, Isabel Guice, Bree Renner, Tesa Renner, Brice Renner; four great-grandchildren, Morgan Knight, Shyanne Gibson, Laurie Gibson and Neil Gibson; and a host of other relatives, as well as a very dear friend, Charlene Lawhorne and special caregiver, Hattie Crimley.
