Wednesday’s loss to Central started out close.

“We kept the game close early,” said coach Chip Ariail, who coaches the Bearcats with seventh-grade head coach Heith Maxwell and coach Rickey McCullough. “We were down just 6-0 in the first quarter when running back Dalvin Spivie broke loose on a 60-yard run to Central’s 3-yard-line.

“Central’s defense came up and dropped us for a couple of losses and the drive stalled at Central’s 10-yard-line.”

The Bearcats scored their only touchdown in the third quarter, when quarterback Eddie Cooper ran a keeper off the right side and powered his way into the end zone from 2 yards out.

Cooper threw to running back Kerenski Willams for the two point conversion, cutting the Yellow Jackets’ lead to 34-8.

The seventh-grade Bearcats opened their season Wednesday, Aug. 31, with a 16-6 victory over the Bulldogs at Thomasville High School’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Running back Dalvin Spivie scored both Bearcats touchdowns. He returned the opening kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown and ran 40 yards from scrimmage for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. He also ran in for both two-point conversions.
