Coach Ed Pilcher thought his Bainbridge High School Bearcats played well in all three areas of the game, during last Friday night’s 30-7 Region 1-AAAA home victory over the Northside-Columbus Patriots.
“Overall I thought our offense, defense and special teams did a good job against Northside-Columbus,” said Pilcher, whose Bearcats are now 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Region 1-AAAA play. “I thought our defense lost a little intensity in the second half. Northside drove deep into our territory and fumbled the ball away once then drove down there again and scored.”
A few weeks ago, Pilcher commented that his defense and kicking game were strong but his offense was still a work in progress. However, he said the offense played well Friday night and also played well during a 35-0 Friday, Sept. 30, Region 1-AAAA home victory over Hardaway.
Last Friday night’s statistics emphasize Pilcher’s point. The Bearcats rushed for 308 yards and passed for 30.
Damian Bouie carried the ball 26 times for 66 yards, averaged 6.4 yards a carry and scored two touchdowns. His backfield running mate Terry Lewis had 16 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown, and averaged 3.8 yards a carry.
Quarterback Quincy Fortson also did his part, picking up 51 yards on 11 carries, averaging 4.6 yards a carry and scoring a touchdown.
There was one area of the Bearcats’ offense that really pleased Pilcher on Friday night — ball control.
“I thought our offense controlled the ball well,” he said. “We moved it and kept it away from Northside most of the night.”
