Sally Miller, the proponent and organizer of the Marley Memorial FREE Spay/Neuter for Cats program, said she has seen an overwhelming response from cat owners who cannot afford to have their cats “fixed.”

Following the kickoff of the program, at a meeting held at the Bainbridge Gilbert H. Gragg library in August, there have been 12 cats spayed or neutered, and there is a large waiting list of people who would like to have the procedure done as soon as funds are available.

In addition to Dr. Russell Henley, the Colquitt veterinarian who has contracted with the group, Drs. David Bryan Jr. and Edgar Hight of Bainbridge have also pledged limited participation. All requests for these services at reduced rates must go through Miller, who can be reached by calling (229) 400-5610.

Miller said special fund raisers are pending and donations are welcome.

“Bob” became the first neutered cat of the program, and is considered the “Poster Cat.” The 1-year-old, gray and white cat with green eyes is neutered, has had his shots and dewormed. He is described by Miller as having a “great temperament and very sweet.”

She is not sure how he would be around other pets, but thinks he would make a great lap cat for an older person. He  has a bob tail — thus the name “Bob.” He is available to a good home, and interested persons may contact Miller at the above number.
