The City of Bainbridge dedicated Landmark Tree No. 1, renaming it in honor of the George E. Daniel family, in a special ceremony held Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. in Willis Park. As city officials and tree committee members, both past and present, and friends looked on, Mayor Edward Reynolds presented George and Carolyn Daniel and their son George Edward Daniel Jr. with an official proclamation prior to the tree receiving a blessing from Rev. Paul Medley, pastor of First Baptist Church. George and Carolyn Daniel were instrumental in the passage of the city’s tree ordinance and organization of the tree committee in 1990.
