Coach Jennfer Oldaker’s Bainbridge High School and Bainbridge Middle School Bearcats and Lady Cats cross country teams have done very well during their early season meets, and Saturday was no excepton.

Competing in the annual Bearcats and Lady Cats Invitational Meet Saturday at Spring Hill Christmas Tree Farm, they were led by BMS runner Bennett Enfinger, who won his second consecutive individual championship and led his team to the meet’s middle school championship.

The previous Saturday, Enfiger won the middle school boys championship at the annual Lee County High School Invitational Meet in Leesburg, with a 2-mile time of 13 minutes, 7 seconds.

On the winning Bearcats middle school cross country team with Enfinger on Saturday were Wright Cook, Nathaniel Lambert, Grayson Graham, Steven Key, Matthey Boyett, Carson Inlow, Carson Harrell, Logan Moorhead, Perry Waddell, Brendon Greene and Matthew Green.

This Saturday, the high school and middle school teams will be in Thomasville competing in the Quail Trail Run at Pebble Hill Plantation. It is being sponsored by the Thomasville High School Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs.

My running friends tell me the Spring Hill Christmas Tree Farm course is one of the most challenging snd rewarding courses around these parts.

To be successful as a cross country runner you have to constantly build stamina while woring to improve your times.

It takes a lot of dedication and self disciplane. Coach Oldaker and community coach Greg Waddell tuned up the runners for Saturday’s big event by getting in some practice time at Spring Hill Christmas Tree Farm.

Farm owners Dan and Bonnie Provence are always gracious hosts for the run, which they host every year. Dan and Bonnie are always there to take me out so I can get pictures of runners on the course.

Turning to football, Bearcats head coach coach Ed Pilcher and his staff are diligently preparing the team for their Region 1-AAAA opener Saturay at 2 p.m. against the Northside-Warner Robins High School Eagles in Warner Robins.

Dan and Bonnie’s son Daniel Provence is doing an outstanding placekicking job for the Bearcats this season.

The Bearcats and Eagles enter Saturday’s game with identical 3-0 records.

I urge fans to come to Warner Robins and cheer on our Bearcats. They are our kids and I guarantee you they will give a 100 percent effort on every down.
