Lady Bearcats’ softball teams split Thursday

The Bainbridge High School varsity and junior varsity Bearcats softball teams split a doubleheader with the Crisp County High School varsity and junior varsity Lady Cougars Thursday in Cordele.
The varsity lost 10-4 and the junior varsity won 4-2.
The varsity Lady Cats scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning. Third baseman Tiffany Hand drew a walk to open the inning and came in on a double by shortstop Briana Wade.
Catcher Kristen Bennett followed with a single, driving in Wade, and Bennett came around to score when second baseman Avis Jackson doubled. Jackson came in with the fourth run when center fielder Diamond Bouie banged into a fielder’s choice.
The junior varsity Lady Cats scored single runs in the first, second, fourth and sixth innings in their victory over the junior varsity Lady Cougars.
Brooke Bates and Summer Kirkland drew back-to-back walks to open the top off the first. Bates stole second, moved to third on an error and came in on a fielder’s choice.
Two walks, two stolen bases and a fielder’s choice  produced the junior varsity Lady Cougars’ first run in the bottom of the first.
Malasia Taylor led off Bainbridge’s second inning with a single and moved up to second when Morgan Phillips grounded out to short. She moved to third on a fielder’s choice and came in on a passed ball.
The junior varsity Lady Cats increased their lead to 4-1 with a run in the top of the fourth. It was scored by Morgan Phillips, who reached on an error, moved up on a passed ball and came in on an error.
The junior varsity Lady Cougars scored their final run in the bottom of the fourth on a single, a stolen base, a pased ball and a fielder’s choice.
The varsity and junior varsity Lady Cats returned to action Tuesday, hosting the Lee County High School varsity and junior varsity Lady Trojans in Region 1-AAAA action. They will conclude their regular season Thursday with a pair of Region 1-AAAA road games against the Thomas County Central High School varsity and junior varsity Lady Yellow Jackets.
The junior varsity game will begin at 4 p.m. and the varsity game will begin at 5:45 p.m.
