The funeral service for George Edward “Ed” Murray, 94, will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. at Sylvania United Methodist Church with Rev. Donna Sue Roberts and Rev. Bill Gregg officiating. Interment will follow at Sylvania Cemetery with Ben Murray, Andy Murray, Jason Murray, Chris Murray, Zack McLendon, and Billy Ward serving as active pallbearers.

Mr. Murray was born Feb. 15, 1917 in Bainbridge, the son of William Edward Murray and Eda Mae Johnson Murray. He died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 at Bainbridge Healthcare. He was a graduate of Faceville High School, Class of 1938, and a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. Mr. Murray was a farmer and member of Sylvania United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, and Woodman of the World.

Mr. Murray was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Christine Murray; his brothers, Bryant Murray and Rufus Murray; and his sister, Daisy Sharon.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Christine Heard Murray of Faceville; his sons, Dale Murray and his wife Angela, Greg Murray and his wife Joyce, and Sid Murray and his wife April, all of Faceville; his daughter, Lorraine Hamlin of Faceville; his sisters, Lelia Ward of Clinton, Tenn., Vera Poitevint of Bainbridge, and Dorothy Alligood of Iron City, Ga.; his grandchildren, Adrienne Hamlin, Lawson Murray, Jason Murray, Chris Murray, Shelia McLendon, and Cathy Willis; and his great-grandchildren, Chelsey Murray, Emlyn Murray, Mercer Ann Murray, Jacey Murray, Jessica McLendon, Zack McLendon, Brooklyn Willis, Karli Willis, and Dax Willis.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 at Ivey Funeral Home.
