Coach Eugene Singletary’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team won big over one opponent this week and was ahead   of another when the game was stopped after four innings due to rain.

On Tuesday, the Lady Cats defeated the Americus-Sumter County Lady Panthers, 11-0, in Americus.

On Thursday, they were ahead of the Thomasville Lady Bulldogs, 3-1, when the second of two rain delays occurred right at the start of the fifth inning, and the game was eventually called. The top of the fifth inning would have had to be completed for it to have been an official game.

Singletary said he and the Thomasville coach both are hopeful that Thursday’s game can be rescheduled.

“Thomasville is willing to come back and play,” Singletary said. “I hope we can mutually agree on a date when both of us are open.”

Tuesday in Americus, Bainbridge (8-1) scored three runs in the first inning and four more in the second to take an early 7-0 lead.

Caitlin Cato, who pitched the first two innings, reached on an error to open the game, stole a base and came in on a passed ball. Caitlyn Dunlap pitched the third and fourth innings and Avis Jackson pitched the fifth and sixth innings.

The final two first-inning runs were scored by centerfielder Diamond Bouie, who walked and scored on a passed ball, and shortstop Briana Wade, who reached on an error and came in on a fielder’s choice.

Left fielder Anna Barber reached on an error to open the Lady Cats’ four-run second inning rally. She moved up on an error and came in on a single by right fielder Laura Griner.

With one away, Griner came home on back-to-back singles by Cato and Bouie.

Wade singled home Cato and Bouie with the inning’s third and fourth runs.

The Lady Cats pushed across their final four runs in the top half of the sixth inning. Big blows of the inning were RBI singles by Bouie and Wade.

On Thursday, the Lady Cats scored a run in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Lady Bulldogs.

Third baseman Tiffany Hand reached on an error to open the inning and stole second. With two outs, right fielder Jocelyn Beard drove her in with a line single to center.

A walk to center fielder Anna Barber and an infield single to short by pitcher Caitlin Cato loaded the bases. All three runners were stranded.

The Lady Bulldogs pushed a run across on a single and a throwing error in the top of the fourth to pull even at 1-1.

Bainbridge’s final two runs were scored in the bottom of the fourth. Cato ignited the rally with a two-out bunt single. She came in when first baseman Diamond Bouie lined a long triple to left. Bouie scored the inning’s second run after shortstop Briana Wade beat out a bunt.
