Alethea “Lee” Hatcher Prance, 98, of Tampa, Fla., and formerly of Brinson, Ga., passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Freedom Square Assisted Living in Seminole, Fla. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Danny Shepard officiating, and will conclude at the chapel. Interment will be at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, at Ivey Funeral Home, prior to the funeral service. In lieu of cut flowers, Mrs. Prance loved live plants, or memorial donations may be made to Suncoast Hospice Foundation, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, Fla. 33760.

Mrs. Prance was born Nov. 3, 1912, in Brinson, the daughter of James Clayton Hatcher and Lula Cato Hatcher. She attended Brinson High School, was a homemaker, and was a member of Buffalo Avenue Baptist Church in Tampa. She was a Little League Mom, PTA president, and a member of the Tampa Bay Gem and Mineral Club, where she liked to make jewelry and talk about her rock collection. Of her many activities, her favorite activity was to work in her vegetable garden, which she maintained into her nineties. She loved to share plants and citrus fruit from her yard with family, friends, and neighbors.

Mrs. Prance was one of 10 children and the last surviving child and was preceded in death by her son, Dewey “Buck” Prance. Survivors include her son, George Prance and his wife, Cindy Smith; her daughter-in-law, Marcella Prance; her five loving grandchildren, Michael Prance and his wife, Tina, Donna LaFrance and her husband, Skip, Emily Smith-Prance, Alexander Smith-Prance, and Joel Smith-Prance; her great-grandchildren, Bobby Moore, David LaFrance, and Adam Lafrance; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and neighbors.

Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
