The annual Inland Port Invitational Meet, which annually draws teams from Georgia, Florida and Alabama, has tentatively been scheduled to be held in Bainbridge for the first weekend in August.

The meet is the only event remaining from a 1960’s celebration known as Inland Port Day.

The Inland Port Meet was started by long-time swim coach and Bainbridge High School band director William Widener. For many years, it was run by the City of Bainbridge Leisure Services Department.

Many swimmers, who came through both the YMCA and city summer swim programs, went on to turn in strong swimming performances for the Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats swim teams.
