Bearcats drop two to Trojans

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats baseball team dropped a region double header by scores of 13-3 and 8-0 to the Lee County High School Trojans Friday in Leesburg, Ga.
The Bearcats entered Tuesday’s non-region game with the Miller County High School Pirates at Bearcat Field with an 8-10 overall record, a 1-5 Region 1AAAA record and a 0-3 Region 1AAAA South Sub-Region record.
They will play the Northside Warner Robins High School Eagles in a region game Friday at 5 p.m. in Warner Robins.
A two-run home run by first baseman Blake Voyles in the top of the first inning gave the Bearcats a quick 2-0 lead in the opener.
Third baseman Steven Bench, who drew a leadoff base on balls, was aboard when Voyles connected.
The Bearcats went on to load the bases before being retired in the top of the first. The Trojans scored a run in the top of the second to cut it to 2-1.
Trojans third baseman Daniel Nichols, who had a three-for-four day at the plate, connected for a two-run double in a three-run bottom of the third to take a 4-2 lead.
Shortstop Chase Patrick, who started the Trojans third with a single, and right fielder Pedro Cruz, who drew a walk, came around to score on Nicholas double. Nichols moved to third on an error and came in on a fielder’s choice.
The Bearcats bounced back with a run in the top of the fourth to cut the Trojans lead to 4-3. It was scored by third baseman Steven Bench, who led off with a single, moved to second on an error and came in on a single by second baseman Sutton Reece.
The Trojans bounced back with six in the bottom of the fourth and three in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away.
Big blows in the fourth were an RBI double by shortstop Chase Patrick, a two-run single by third baseman Daniel Nichols, and an RBI single by catcher Chase Griffin.
The Trojans’ fifth inning runs were scored by a singling right fielder Pedro Cruz, a doubling third baseman Daniel Nichols and a singling catcher Chase Griffin.
In the nightcap, the Trojans got an RBI single by Chase Griffin and a two-run triple by Tanner Stone.
The Bearcats biggest second game threat came in the top of the third when Steven Bench drew a walk and moved around to third on a single by Brandon Bates before being stranded.
