The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats soccer team divided two games Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, they lost 6-0 to the Lee County High School Lady Trojans in Leesburg, and on Saturday they beat the Worth County High School Lady Rams 1-0 at Centennial Field.

The Lady Cats’ winning goal on Saturday was scored by junior midfielder Charlton Reynolds in the 52nd minute.

After senior midfielder Robbi Howard was fouled in the penalty area in the 52nd minute, Reynolds powered a shot just over the Lady Rams’ goal keeper’s hands and into the net.

In Friday’s contest, the Lady Trojans took a 1-0 lead when one of their forwards lofted a ball into the left corner of the goal from 10 yards out.

The Lady Cats defense then stepped up, holding the Lady Trojans scoreless the rest of the first half. In the second half, the Lady Trojans pounced on two shot deflections and got them past the goal keeper in the 43rd and 45th minutes to increase their lead to 3-0.

The Lady Trojans sealed the victory with goals in 52nd, 63rd and 68th minutes.

Coach Chip Ariail thought his team stepped up to the challenge Friday and Saturday.

“I am encouraged by our play these past two games,” Ariail said Monday. “We challenged our opponents in all areas of the field.

“Despite our struggles in the second half Friday night, we continued to have good effort and had several opportunities to score against a stout Lady Trojans squad.

About Saturday’s game, Ariail said he thought Worth County challenged his team both mentally and physically, demanding his team’s best defensive effort.

“The Lady Rams were sporting a junior forward who has already scored close to 20 goals this season, but due to a team effort we were able to shut her down, thwart the Worth County attack and earn a well deserved shutout.”

Although his team was limited to just one goal on Saturday, Ariail noted the strong play of several players.

“Sophomore midfielder Isis Crawford played fantastic in both games and really became a factor. Also senior Candace Perkins, junior Tiffany Pearson and sophomores Tiffany Hand and Caitlyn Cato had great efforts on the defensive end.

“At midfield senior Robbi Howard and juniors Charlton Reynolds, Savannah Cook, MacKenzie Conder and Anye Miller played well both games. Senior forward Bailey Wells also hustled to put pressure on both opponents.”
