The Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats helped Georgia win Saturday’s first Georgia-Florida Border Challenge Track Meet at Chiles High School in Tallahassee, Fla.

Coach Larry Cosby’s Bearcats and Coach Tandria Phillips Lady Cats finished first and fifth, respectively, in strong 14-team fields at the Border Challenge, which organizers plan to make an annual event.

BHS’ track teams both won two of the six trophies given. Georgia schools Lowndes County and Valdosta also received trophies. Lowndes County won the girls championship.

Host Chiles and Godby High School of Tallahassee were the only Florida schools to win trophies.

Capturing a pair of individual first places for the Bearcats were Joseph Ausgood. He won the 400-meter run in a time of 50.34 seconds and the 800-meter run in a time of 2 minutes, 0.22 seconds.

Second places were captured by Octavious Scott with a 40.60-second 300-meter hurdles time, Ryan Edwards with a 51.06-second 400-meter run time, Delonte Martistee with a 6-feet, 4-inch high jump and Dewayne Gurley with a 162-feet, 5-inch discus throw.

Jamar Venisee-Cosby took third in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches.

The Bearcats 4-by-100-meter relay team was third in a time of 42.64 seconds. Team members were Aaron Hall, Shawn Samuels, Brandon Handsford and Terry Lewis. Steve Crowell had a 50 feet, 2 inch third place shot put heave.

The Bearcats 4-by-800-meter relay team of Dominique Parrish, Jevanta Ross, Tadarius Gardner and Javarius Anderson finished fourth in a time of 9 minutes, 7.05 seconds.

Martistee was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 44 feet, 8 inches. Aquivious Carroll was fifth in the shot put with a heave of 45 feet, 1/2 inch.

Taking sixth places for the Bearcats were Alton Miller with a 52.50-second 400-meter run time, and Martistee with a 21 foot, 6 inch long jump.

Octavious Scott and Dontavious Jackson were seventh in the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles with times of 15.73 seconds and 41.73 seconds. Jackson was also eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.92.

Samuels finished eighth in the 200-meter run in a time of 22.83 seconds; Jordan Johnson finished eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, 10 inches. Josh Sheard finished eighth in the discus with a throw of 116 feet, 8 inches and Dewayne Gurley finished eighth in the shot put with a heave of 43 feet, 8 inches.

In girls action, the Lady Cats 4-by-400-meter relay team of Khadeeijah Cooper, Ashley Mango, Raven Burney and Diamond Bouie captured first in a time of 4 minutes, 10.01 seconds. Individually, Bouie was first in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet. and Cooper was second in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 48.72.

Khadeedra Sparrow captured second in the discus with a throw of 95 feet, 5 inches and third in the shot put with a heave of 31 feet, 6 inches.

Porchia Green was fourth in the high jump with a leap of five feet and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 51.36 seconds.

Cameron Williams took fourth in the shot put with a heave of 30 feet, 11 inches and fifth in the discus with a throw of 83 feet, 9 inches.

Also taking fifth in a time of 51.25 seconds were the Lady Cats 4-by-100-meter relay team of Kadeejah Cooper, Tearnee Harvin, Bouie and Burney.

Capturing sixth places for the Lady Cats Saturday were Bouie with a 17.17-second 100-meter hurdles time, Mango with a 2 minutes, 31.71-second 800-meter run time, Terrika Green with a 4 feet, 8 inches high jump, Jasmine Belin with 31 feet, 7 inches triple jump and Tanisha Warren with a 29 feet, 4 inches shot put heave.

The Lady Cats 4-by-800 meter relay team of Mango, Amber Thomas, Tiffany Smiley and Josalyn Barthel was seventh in the 4-by-800-meter run in a time of 11:19.30.

Harvin was eighth in the 100-meter run and 200-meter run in times of 13.08 seconds and 27.49 seconds. Green was eighth in the 400-meter run in a time of 1:04.68 and eighth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.08. Paige Braswell was eighth in the 3200-meter run in a time of 14:11.70.
