The funeral service for Lenora “Polly” McGalliard Powell, 75, of Colquitt, Ga., will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Revs. Stanley Phillips and Herman Hampton officiating.
Interment will follow at White’s Bridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Powell was born July 9, 1935, in Mitchell County, Ga., the daughter of Elphus Clyde McGalliard and Mattie Celia Joiner McGalliard. She died Feb. 17, 2011, at Magnolia Manor South in Moultrie. Ga.
She was a graduate of Pelham High School, Class of 1953, and worked for several years at Lewis Drug Company in Pelham. Mrs. Powell retired from Miller County School System with more than 20 years of service as an assistant cafeteria manager, and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack McGalliard and Ronald McGalliard; her sisters, Velma Morrell and Lula Belle Huey; and her husband’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Powell.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Windell Powell of Colquitt; her sons, Garrett Powell of Bainbridge, and Jule Powell and his wife, Natasha, of Bainbridge; her daughters, Marsha Greene and her husband, Mark, of Seminole County, and Wendy Barber and her husband, Brad, of Moultrie; her brother, Roy McGalliard of Pleasanton, Calif.; her sister, Doris Humphries of Pelham; her grandchildren, Tony Greene, Megan Greene, Will Barber, George Barber, Weston Powell and Taryn Powell; and her two great-grandchildren, Mara Greene and Michael Greene.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, prior to the funeral service at Fellowship Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to White’s Bridge Cemetery Fund, c/o Norma Hornsby, 980 Brinson Road, Colquitt, GA 39837 or to a charity of one’s choice.
