Mary Bernice Sales

Funeral services for Mary Bernice Sales, 87, of Bainbridge, Ga., will be held Saturday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Eric D. Collins, the Revs. Delise Cox and William B. Sales officiating.

Remains will lie in state at the church at 1 p.m.

Interment will follow the services at Jonas Lobe Cemetery with Tony Shuman, Michael Dukes, Clifford Powell, Jerome Billings, Brandon Williams and Lavoyd Reddick acting as pallbearers.

Mrs. Sales was born Oct. 15, 1923, and died Jan. 16, 2011. She was a member of Macedonia M.B. Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was known throughout the Bainbridge community as “the Avon Lady,” and was also retired from the Bainbridge State Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Monte Sales Jr., and one grandchild.

Survivors include three sons, William Sales of Boston, Ga., Jerome Sales of Elizabeth, N.J., and Larry Sales of Bainbridge; three sisters, Louise Bailey of Bainbridge, Margaret Green of Defuniak Springs, Fla., and Jean Sally Thomas of Bainbridge; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Guyton Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
