Funeral services for Deacon James Lewis “Mutt” Conyers, 85, of Bainbridge, were held Dec. 30, 2010, at Nelson Chapel AME Church with Elder John R. Cheatem officiating.

Interment followed at Jonas Lobe Cemetery with sons and friends acting as pallbearers.

Mr. Conyers was born Aug. 8, 1925, in Decatur County, Ga., and died Dec. 25, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.

He was a member of Mount Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Lovie Mae Davis Conyers; 11 children, Roosevelt Conyers Sr. of Warner Robins, Ga., James L. Conyers Jr., Ralph O. Conyers Sr., Patricia C. Mitchell, Kenneth J. Conyers Sr., Dexter B. Conyers and Robin E. Conyers, all of Bainbridge, William A. Conyers, of Copperas Cove, Texas, Cedric A. Conyers, of Greensboro, Fla., and Michael E. Conyers of Tallahassee, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bruton Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
