The 12-year old Bearcats travel baseball team qualified for the championship of the Travel Ball USA league this past July in Marianna, Florida.

During the tournament, a 40-yard dash was held with the participation of more than 90 players from Florida, Alabama and Georgia. The 12-year-old Bearcats’ Dalvin Spivie turned in the quickest time at 5.1 secobds.

“Dalvin is one of those Athletes that come around every ten years or so that does the impossible at a young age,” said the team’s manager, Garrett Williams.

In addition, Spivie led the young Bearcats in steals and extra base hits during the summer travel ball season.

The ‘Cats finished a strong year with the defense being anchored by first baseman, Bryce Williams, second baseman Jones Gossett, centerfielder Justin Poitevint and shortstop Bailey Dixon.

The offense was led by Bo Phillips, Perry Waddell, Harley Ponder and Spivie. Leading the team in pitching were Clark Wiggins, Phillips, Ponder, Matthew Green and Waddell.

“These kids have gained a lot of experience by playing by high school rules for the past two years,” Williams said. “The coaching staff deserve praise this year for giving countless hours to the kids.”

Other members of the coaching staff were Head Coach Trey Gossett, first base coach Dr. J.D. Phillips, third base Coach Payton Dixon, pitching Coach David Wiggins and hitting coach Rusty Poitevint.
