Funeral services for Willie Emory Smart Jr., 61, of Attapulgus, Ga., were held Saturday, Nov. 27, at New Jerusalem Church with Pastor Randall L. Hines Sr. officiating.

Interment followed at Bethel A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Attapulgus with Robert Lee Bell, Tony Brown, Hughes Gardner, Alford Smart, Carlos Smart and Jimmy Thomas acting as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Adolphus Peterson, JeMichael Smith, C.D. Williford and Timmy Williford.

Mr. Smart was born July 9, 1949, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Willie Emory Smart Sr. of Attapulgus, and died Nov. 22, 2010.

He graduated from A&M High School in Decatur County and was a professional semi-truck driver for many years. He retired from Jimmie Crowder Excavation in Tallahassee as a tire technician. After his retirement he created his own transportation company, providing services to the surrounding area.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Otha Cooper; two sisters, Mary Knight and Janestine Cooper; and a son, Dexter Dewayne Smart.

Survivors include his wife, Ruthie Pearl Smart; four children, Annie Butler, Willie Smart, Sonja Nnaji and Twyla Baker; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings, Gussie Banks, Synella Williford, Janne Brown, Mattie Perry, Lucy Green, Barbara Williford, Cherry Bryant and Greg Smart; and a host of relatives and friends.

Guyton Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
