Fifth presidential candidate here Thursday

Dr. Richard Carvajal, fifth candidate for the position of Bainbridge College president, will be on the BC campus Thursday, Sept. 16.
Carvajal will meet with students in the Kirbo Center Solarium from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m., and then with faculty and staff from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Kirbo Center Auditorium.
A community session will be held from 6-7 p.m. Thursday in the Kirbo Center.
An open session will be held at the Early County Academic Center from 10:45-11:30 a.m. on Friday.
Dr. Carvajal currently serves as the Vice President for Student Success Services at Cascadia Community College in Bothell, Washington.
In his role at Cascadia, he is responsible for strategic enrollment management, financial aid, student life, diversity & equity services, international education, academic advising, disability support services, dual-enrollment programs, counseling, the Math & Writing Center, and oversight of the college’s first-year experience program and faculty.
At Cascadia, Dr. Carvajal has successfully led a college-wide transition to strategic enrollment management that has enabled the college to grow by 43 percent in the past three years. He also oversaw the opening of a new one-stop student services center that has become a model in the Pacific Northwest, and he oversaw the development and implementation of an international education business plan that has thus far resulted in a 1000 percent increase in international student enrollment. When fully mature, this program will net approximately $1.5 million annually for the college’s general fund.
Dr. Carvajal earned his decorate in higher education administration from The University of South Carolina. Previously he earned a Master of Science in Education degree from Southern Illinois University, and he earned a bachelor’s degree from East Central University in Oklahoma, where he was the institution’s outstanding graduate.
Dr. Carvajal is married and the father of two children.
