Riley leads Benedict

Former Bainbridge High School Bearcats quarterback Patrick Riley had a big night for the Benedict College Tigers in their 34-27 loss to Morehouse College last Saturday night.

The loss came in the Palmetto Capital City Classic held in Columbia, S.C.

Riley, an All-Region 1AAAA quarterback and outstanding track sprinter at BHS, rushed 27 times for 59 yards, and completed 8 of 14 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

He threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Kareem Dunlap and a 50-yard touchdown pass to Corey Gardhigh.

Before transferring to Benedict two years ago, Riley spent two years as the starting quarterback for the Eastern Arizona Junior College Gila Monsters in Thatcher, Ariz., where he had two outstanding seasons.

During his 2009 junior season at Benedict, Riley was named second team All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

He rushed for 1,088 yards and 12 touchdowns and passed for 887 yards and eight touchdowns.

Individually, he was fourth in the conference in rushing with 162 carries for 1,008 yards and 12 touchdowns.

In addition, he averaged 98.9 passing yards a game and was ninth in the conference in passing, completing 41 of 98 throws for 887 yards and eight touchdowns.

Riley averaged 80.6 passing yards a game and was third in the conference in scoring with 72 points.
